London find a much-needed win to complete their Pool A action with an 18-13 triumph over Ermont.
From the very first basket, Justin Pierce made his presence felt with a quick dive and a reverse finish to set the tone. He capped off a standout all-round performance with 10 points and a game high player value of 14.1. Ermont couldn’t find an answer to his exceptional offensive production as he tallied up a perfect 6 points with 100% shooting from one-point land.
London proved to be the sharper team on all fronts, conceding fewer turnovers and capitalising on key offensive rebounds. Evan Walshe found his way to the basket with several powerful drives and was rewarded with a highlight play which saw him earn a trip to the line after throwing a handful of fakes and getting the ball to drop. This became a familiar theme for Ermont as they committed 11 fouls, resulting in London adding 7 points from the stripe.
The shifty Herve Jean-Pierre led Ermont’s challenge with 7 points of his own, but London’s improved defensive effort proved insurmountable as they limited the French side to the fewest points scored in a Pool A game.
London looked a different side from their opener, crisper in all aspects and doing what they couldn’t against Mataró - punishing their opponents for an early foul spree. Their defensive grit fed straight into their offense, and the game was sealed with style as Justin Pierce drove in for a smooth scoop finish, plus the foul, punctuating a strong team performance.
Ashley Hamilton and Ryan Langborg chipped in with key inside points of their own, and it was this all-round team effort that proved decisive. After waiting on the final group result, London secured second place and a quarter-final clash with Marbella - a side they have unfinished business with. On current form, London look every bit a team built to make a deep playoff run.
